5 ways to find your purpose in life

“Why am I here?”

It’s the biggest question in the world.

And despite millions of people searching for the answer for millions of years, chances are you’re still wondering.

In fact, you might even find yourself thinking that your life is directionless or that you’re lacking a sense of purpose.

But this is simply not true!

Everyone has a different path in life. Even if you’re not reshaping history or changing the way of the world, your life has meaning and value. There is an abundance of joy to be found if you know where to look!

Here are some ways to help you give purpose and meaning to your life:

1. Listen first, talk second

You have two ears and one mouth.

With that ratio, it’s clear that we were designed to listen twice as much as we speak.

Take time to truly listen to your friends, family, and even those you might consider antagonists. You will be surprised at what hidden depth a person can have!

2. Consider your surroundings

Your vibe attracts your tribe. And the reverse is also true!

If you surround yourself with bitter, hateful people, chances are you’ll end up that way yourself.

Try to make friends and form bonds with those who look on the brighter side of things. This doesn’t mean everyone has to be super sunny all of the time – simply that it’s best to surround yourself with those who choose to seek hope over despair.

3. Follow your bliss

Life isn’t just about living – it’s about finding something to live for.

This can be anything from going back to school to starting a knitting project to strengthening a relationship. It’s simply untrue that all goals have to be lofty for them to be worthwhile – do whatever makes you happy!

And remember, it’s the journey, not the destination. Oftentimes simply the act of planning or starting can bring you as much happiness as the intended result.

4. Care for others

There is a great joy to be found in improving the existence of others.

Remember the campsite rule: “Always leave in a better condition than when you found it”. Imagine if we could do that for humanity?

This doesn’t necessarily mean donating thousands or spending all your time volunteering – a simple act of kindness or a helping hand to someone in need can go a long way.

5. Take action

We’ve reached the most important step of all – the first one!

Good things may come to those who wait, but if you sit around and do nothing, then that’s exactly what you’ll achieve.

Be proactive, curious, and open to new people and experiences. Go out there and do something – even if it’s small. Go on… life is out there waiting for you!

While we all have our off days, it can be useful to remember that you are here on this earth for a reason – even if it’s as simple as making someone smile.
